Gold and Silver Trinket Brushes
by Gary Bouton (Gare online)
This month’s Giveaway is not one, but two custom brushes for Xara—trinkets in silver and in gold. Gary created the shapes as bitmaps using original and font designs from FBI’s Town Ornaments and then extruded and rendered them in one of the few commercial software packages Pixar ever offered to the public. They’re fun, they make great borders and they’re high resolution (300 ppi). You can even create a brushstroke, press Ctrl+Shift+S to make the stroke into editable shapes, and you’ll wind up with several high-resolution bitmaps with alpha transparency you can use for other projects.
To use the brushes, you need to realize that custom brushes are local to a specific document. They won’t be available in a new document until you copy a stroke to that new document. Then, open the Line Gallery> New Brush Strokes and you’ll find the brush. Use the Freehand and Brush tool to stroke the trinket sequence after choosing it, adjust the size of the trinkets using the Line width control on the Infobar, and try scribbling all over the place to make a pot of gold (or silver)!
And if you’re familiar with the Brush controls (when the Freehand and Line tool is chosen and a stroke is selected), you can modify the size of the trinket brushes, the Offset (the distance from where you drag) and other properties.
